Sufjan Stevens will perform “Mystery of Love” at this year’s Academy Awards. One of Stevens’ three contributions to the soundtrack of Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name (Sony Pictures Classics), “Mystery of Love” is nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song.

The original version, featuring Brazilian vocalists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar, has been streamed more than 480 million times since its release earlier this year on Major Lazer’s surprise EP Know No Better.

As Athens, GA rock icons R.E.M.’s landmark Automatic For The People celebrates its 25th anniversary, the band has reissued the newly-remastered album on a variety of formats via Craft Recordings. These include a deluxe four-disc edition featuring previously unreleased demos, the only live-show from the era from the 40 Watt Club in Athens and the record mixed in the revolutionary new Dolby Atmos format by original producer Scott Litt and engineer Clif Norrell.

MusicPHILIP GLASS TO HOLD RICHARD AND BARBARA DEBS COMPOSER’S CHAIR AT CARNEGIE HALL FOR 2017–2018 SEASON
In celebration of his 80th birthday year, esteemed American composer Philip Glass has been appointed to hold the Richard and Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair at Carnegie Hall for the 2017–2018 season. The yearlong residency will present performances that feature both Glass classics and premieres: American Composers Orchestra dedicates a program to composers inspired by Glass; the Philip Glass Ensemble and the San Francisco Girls Chorus perform his groundbreaking but rarely performed masterpiece, Music with Changing Parts, as part of the citywide festival The ‘60s: The Years that Changed America; notable premieres include a string quartet for the JACK Quartet and arrangements by composer Nico Muhly of lesser-known Glass songs—both Carnegie Hall commissions; additionally, the Louisiana Philharmonic and Pacific Symphony both make their Carnegie Hall debuts in programs selected, in part, by Glass in response to invitations extended to U.S. orchestras to submit programs that place important works by the composer in illuminating contexts.
