On January 13, 2017, London trio The xx released their highly-anticipated third album I See You via Young Turks. The album’s widespread critical acclaim has been matched this week by global chart success, with I See You debuting at number 1 in seven countries including The U.K., Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands, Ireland, Australia and Belgium. I See You was also the best selling album in the U.S. and Canada last week and currently sits at number 2 in the Billboard consumption chart.
MusicLORI MCKENNA WINS BEST COUNTRY SONG AT 59TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS
Lori McKenna won Best Country Song for her solo-penned, No. 1 hit “Humble and Kind” (Tim McGraw) at last night’s 59th Annual Grammy Awards. This is McKenna’s second consecutive win in the category following last year’s win for “Girl Crush” (co-written with Liz Rose and Hillary Lindsey). She is the first songwriter to win back-to-back awards in the category since Shania Twain in 1999-2000.
Music“CHRIS STAPLETON’S ALL-AMERICAN ROAD SHOW” TOUR ANNOUNCED
Chris Stapleton’s All-American Road Show” will bring the acclaimed musician to cities across the country this year, including stops at L.A.’s The Forum, Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and New York’s Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre. Produced by Live Nation, the tour will feature Brothers Osborne, Lucie Silvas, Anderson East, Brent Cobb and Margo Price as special guests.
MusicTOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS ADD MORE DATES TO 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers have added more dates to their 40th Anniversary Tour, produced by Live Nation. New concerts have been added in Seattle at Safeco Field on August 19 and at Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on August 17. Both of these shows will feature special guests The Lumineers.
MusicPHILIP GLASS TO HOLD RICHARD AND BARBARA DEBS COMPOSER’S CHAIR AT CARNEGIE HALL FOR 2017–2018 SEASON
In celebration of his 80th birthday year, esteemed American composer Philip Glass has been appointed to hold the Richard and Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair at Carnegie Hall for the 2017–2018 season. The yearlong residency will present performances that feature both Glass classics and premieres: American Composers Orchestra dedicates a program to composers inspired by Glass; the Philip Glass Ensemble and the San Francisco Girls Chorus perform his groundbreaking but rarely performed masterpiece, Music with Changing Parts, as part of the citywide festival The ‘60s: The Years that Changed America; notable premieres include a string quartet for the JACK Quartet and arrangements by composer Nico Muhly of lesser-known Glass songs—both Carnegie Hall commissions; additionally, the Louisiana Philharmonic and Pacific Symphony both make their Carnegie Hall debuts in programs selected, in part, by Glass in response to invitations extended to U.S. orchestras to submit programs that place important works by the composer in illuminating contexts. Blackberry Smoke’s acclaimed new album Like An Arrow debuts this week at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Country Albums and Americana Albums charts as well as No. 3 on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart. Additionally, in the U.K., the album debuts this week at No. 1 on the Rock Albums and Independent Albums charts. This is the band’s second consecutive No. 1 album, following 2015’s Holding All the Roses, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and No. 8 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart.

As part of its celebratory 25th Anniversary year, Gibney Dance announces today its Fall 2016 Season featuring signature series Making Space, DoublePlus and Sorry I Missed Your Show, a Gibney Dance Company residency in Rwanda as part of the organization’s Global Community Action program, a full season of Gallery Exhibitions, plus the premiere of a brand new work by Gibney Dance CEO & Artistic Director Gina Gibney, Folding In. Set for eight performances November 2–12, the piece marks the choreographer’s first evening-length work since 2013, and the first to be performed by the newly re-envisioned Gibney Dance Company: Associate Artistic Director Amy Miller and Artistic Associates Natsuki Arai, Nigel Campbell, Kassandra Cruz, Devin Oshiro and Brandon Welch.
