BalconyTV will present an official CMJ kickoff show in partnership with Time Out New York at The Studio at Webster Hall on October 15. The show will feature eleven artists who have performed on BalconyTV balconies across the globe. More information on the night’s lineup is below:
Cherub: Headlining the night is Cherub, the electro-pop duo comprised of Jordan Kelly and Jason Huber. Known for their hit “Doses and Mimosas,” Cherub combines 80s dance with today’s pop sensibilities.
Satellite: Nashville’s Satellite has resonated deeply with fans and critics alike. The alternative rock quartet blends vulnerable lyrics with finely textured pop. Their BalconyTV performance can be found HERE.
Lily & the Parlor Tricks: Roots planted firmly in early rock n’ roll, Lily & The Parlour Tricks have a new take on Americana with influences ranging from The Andrews Sisters to Nine Inch Nails to Johnny Cash and Watch them on the balcony HERE.
Sheppard: Siblings Amy, George and Emma Sheppard along with friends Jay Bovino, Michael Butler and Dean Gordon are taking Australia, and the world, by storm. Sheppard has become one of 2013’s breakout radio acts with sing-a-long hit “Let Me Down Easy” igniting airwaves. Their appearance on BalconyTV is HERE.
Seasick Mama: Seasick Mama is a singer, songwriter, performer, and model. Her current EP Dead Like Money has allowed her to “break genres and the traditional expectations of a pop artist” (Ladygunn Magazine). Her performance on the balcony in Brooklyn is HERE.
The Ugly Club: The Ugly Club has been operating for nearly three years with such a force that it has become impossible to ignore them. With the July 2012 release of their debut album, You Belong To The Minutes, they credit influences like Radiohead, My Morning Jacket and Prince. Their performance on BalconyTV Brooklyn is HERE.
Bad Suns: Mysterious Los Angeles rockers Bad Suns have toured with The 1975 and have an EP in the works.
Computer Magic: Computer Magic is electronic-pop music produced and composed by Danielle “Danz” Johnson. She has just returned from Japan where she released her second album “Phonetics” (Tugboat /P-Vine).
Little Comets: Hailing from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Little Comets is a Cambridge graduate, particle physicist and a local sailor. Robert, Michael and Matthew attempt to create a lilting combination of deft percussive nuance and melodic shimmer, shrouded in a veil of abstract lyrics.
Stone Cold Fox: Stone Cold Fox is band made up of recording engineers, filmmakers and drum maniacs. Hailing from the hills of Connecticut, the band self-proclaims as “stoner rock star hipsters” and make music fitting the description.
Arms: ARMS is the long-running pseudonymous music project of singer/guitarist Todd Goldstein. Started in 2004 as a bedroom solo project, ARMS’ new EP—the follow-up to 2011’s lush, ambitious full-length Summer Skills—is called, appropriately, EP2 (Paper Garden Records).
Created 7 years ago by Dubliner Stephen O’Regan, BalconyTV’s regional teams scour the globe for the most exciting underground artists and tape them performing a single song live. The site posts 50 performances a week, 2,500 annually from over 50 different cities on six continents. Balcony TV has recorded over 10,000 original performances that have garnered over 45 million worldwide views. Among those early acts are Mumford & Sons, The Script, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Matisyahu, Jessie J, Temper Trap and Ed Sheeran—all recorded when they were unknowns.
BalconyTV began in Dublin, Ireland in 2006 when three friends decided the only thing that could make their evening on the balcony better was live music. A few days later with one video camera, a microphone and a musician friend they posted the first show on YouTube thus creating BalconyTV. Shortly after, with a more refined production sense, the team invited local bands and individual performers to their balcony. Before long, bands from all over the world were contacting BalconyTV to get on the balcony and play.
