DAMIEN RICE’S “HYPNOSIS” VIDEO PREMIERES AS NPR MUSIC “FIRST WATCH”
ORIGINAL SONG COMPOSED FOR ANIMATED FILM KAHLIL GIBRAN’S THE PROPHET
SOUNDTRACK OUT NOW ON WARNER BROS. RECORDS
WORLDWIDE TOUR DATES CONFIRMED
The video for “Hypnosis,” an original song composed by Damien Rice specifically for the new animated feature Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, is premiering now at NPR Music as a “First Watch” (http://n.pr/1LOzD7q). The animation from the clip is all taken directly from the movie. Rice also contributed the song “On Children,” with lyrics by Khalil Gibran. Of the project, Rice explains, “Some books inspire me to buy multiple copies and pass on to friends, The Prophet is at the top of that list.”
Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, which is now open in New York City and Los Angeles, was produced and spearheaded by Salma Hayek-Pinault and is based on the classic, internationally acclaimed and best-selling book by celebrated Lebanese author, Kahlil Gibran. The score is by Oscar winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient) with additional music for the soundtrack by Oscar winner Glen Hansard (Once), Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Lisa Hannigan. See below for track listing. The soundtrack is now available via Warner Bros. Records.
No stranger to film soundtracks, Rice contributed tracks to the Mike Nichols’ Oscar-nominated 2004 movie Closer. The songs “Blower’s Daughter” and “Cold Water,” off his Platinum debut O, were the central pieces of music for the film.
Furthermore, Rice will continue to tour worldwide celebrating his latest album My Favourite Faded Fantasy, including stops in South America this fall. See below for details.
My Favourite Faded Fantasy was released last year to widespread critical acclaim—the Los Angeles Times hailed it as “full of grippingly intimate confessions from a songwriter unafraid to present himself and his flaws” while NPR Music furthered, “There’s nothing reluctant or halfhearted about the bold, dreamy, impeccably rendered music.” The album was produced by renowned producer Rick Rubin and Rice. The recording began in Los Angeles and finished up in Iceland. Watch a clip of Rice explaining his creative process here: http://bit.ly/10zh2Kl.
