GUARDS’ “READY TO GO” MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERES AT MTV

TOURING WITH THE JOY FORMIDABLE, BEST COAST, ALT J, COACHELLA CONFIRMED

DEBUT ALBUM, IN GUARDS WE TRUST, RECEIVES CRITICAL ACCLAIM FROM NPR MUSIC, NPR’S FRESH AIR, PITCHFORK, VOGUE, ESQUIRE AND MORE

“A sound deconstructed through the minds of musicians who look more to memories than they do to the future, and in the process find something that sounds like a new discovery.” —NPR

The music video for Guards’ new single “Ready To Go” premiered today across multiple channels at MTV (MTV2, mtvU, MTV Buzzworthy Blog, MTV Hive and VH1.com). The song is the latest single from the trio’s critically acclaimed debut album, In Guards We Trust (Black Bell Records). In support of the album, the band is currently in the midst of a tour with The Joy Formidable and, in April, will join Phoenix, the xx and Grizzly Bear at the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, followed by a series of shows with Best Coast and Alt-J. See below for complete tour details.

The premiere comes after a highly successful SXSW for the trio, who performed at parties for MTV, Paste, Filter, Urban Outfitters, Hipstamatic and The Warner Sound. Of their festival appearance, the Chicago Tribune heralds, ”they delivered guitar-based, melody-saturated songs in the tradition of great power-pop combos,” while Bob Boilen of NPR Music selected the band as one of his 15 Essential Moments From SXSW 2013,” praising, “I walked across the street to the Empire Control Room, toward the sound of good, strong, guitar-laden pop…I loved what I was hearing.”

Of In Guards We Trust, Pitchfork praises, “it’s the kind of reliable, polished indie pop that plays to the rafters,” while Esquire named the band one of “15 Music Artists to Watch in 2013” and Vogue selected them as “Band of the Week.” Additionally, in his NPR “Fresh Air” review, music critic Ken Tucker asserts, “At a time in music when pop, rock, country and hip-hop acts all strain to create anthems that will inspire sing-along devotion in large-size audiences, Guards—a band that’s only been around for a few years and has released comparatively little music—is already well on its way to giving the anthem form more interest and gravitas than musicians with far more experience.”

Released to widespread praise, IFC calls the album’s first single, “Silver Lining,” “a boisterous and driving track that shows Guards doing what it does best: Making raucous rock with a retro edge and undeniable appeal,” while of the second single, “Coming True,” Pitchfork asserts, “…slack verses with palm-muted guitars give way to a monster chorus delivered with the confidence that tells you Guards know they have a hit on their hands.” Moreover, Stereogum describes the most recent single, “Ready To Go,” as “a warmly sweeping indie pop tune.”

The official music video for “Silver Lining” (directed by band-member Kaylie Church) debuted at IFC (the video can be viewed/embedded here). Moreover, a live video of the band performing the song at New York’s Music Hall of Williamsburg is also available to view at Bowery Presents Live Channel on YouTube. Lastly, the band recently debuted a special album teaser, featuring the song "Nightmare.”

Founded in New York City by singer Richie Follin, Guards also features Kaylie Church and Loren Humphrey.
