HORSE THIEF’S TRIALS AND TRUTHS OUT THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, ON BELLA UNION
Trials And Truths, the much-anticipated new album from Oklahoma quintet Horse Thief, is out this Friday, January 27 on Bella Union. Preorder the album here.
The album is garnering early acclaim—FLOOD praises its “bedroom indie rock that feels as wide as the prairies” while Mxdwn calls standout track “Little One” a “perfectly-compact nugget of deftly-written guitar pop” and goes on to say “bandleader Cameron Neal has crafted an impressive collection of tracks on their sophomore LP.” In addition to “Little One,” the band has also shared album track “Another Youth.” Watch the video here.
Further praise for Trials and Truths:
“A more composed, strikingly mature effort…utterly sublime” –Clash
“Trials improves upon Fear in Bliss in every way…The production here is clearer and brighter, the songwriting is tighter,…the melodies are stronger, and the lyrical themes are less abstract and more personal.”–The Line Of Best Fit
“In its tales of life in mountain towns, of love declared and not returned, of hard decisions made, it has an honesty and a sense of wildness and isolation. It’s all quite beautiful.” –Record Collector News
For Trials And Truths, Horse Thief reunited with producer Thom Monahan (Devendra Banhart, Vetiver). Frontman Cameron Neal notes, “We had more time to dwell on these songs, as the first record was written and recorded really quickly. We’d toured Fear In Bliss for 18 months, which really helped us get to know each other’s styles, and where to take the new songs. It means this album is closer to the sound that we want.”
Horse Thief was originally founded in Denton, TX by Neal. He joined forces with Cody Fowler (bass), Alberto Roubert (drums, percussion), Zach Zeller (organ, keys, guitar) and Alex Coleman (guitar, keys) while studying at Oklahoma’s Academy of Contemporary Music. The band was then introduced to Bella Union through their friends, The Flaming Lips, and released their debut album shortly after.
