“…through bands such as The Civil Wars, a new music industry is born.” —Los Angeles Times

In support of their breakout, debut album, Barton Hollow, The Civil Wars recently performed on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “Good Morning America.” The duo debuted “Kingdom Come,” their new song from The Hunger Games soundtrack, on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and performed their hit single “Barton Hollow” on “Good Morning America.” Additional upcoming appearances include the Beale Street Music Festival, Sasquatch and Bonnaroo. Moreover, the duo will kick off the 38th season of PBS’s “Austin City Limits” and will be featured on the new season of MTV’s “Unplugged.” See below for complete details.

These performances add to an already widely successful 2012 for the duo, who won “Best Folk Album” and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” at 54th annual GRAMMY Awards and performed 60 seconds of the album’s title track on the live award’s broadcast. Subsequently, the album reached #10 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 35,663 units (up 178%, second only to Adele’s 21 up 207%). Sales for Barton Hollow now total over 403,000 units (Sensibility Music). The duo was also featured on the cover of Billboard magazine’s March 17 issue.

Released February 1, 2011, Barton Hollow debuted at #12 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on iTunes’ overall Albums chart. The album’s first single and title track was nominated for “Duo Video of the Year” at the 2011 CMT Music Awards, while the band was nominated for “Vocal Duo of the Year” at the 2011 CMA Awards and both “New/Emerging Artist of the Year” as well as “Duo/Group of the Year” at the 10th annual Americana Honors and Music Awards. Additionally, the band was selected as a VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist to watch and both the music videos for “Poison & Wine” and “Barton Hollow” have been featured on VH1’s “Top 20 Countdown.” Since January 2011, the band has performed three times on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” in addition to appearing on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” American Public Media’s “A Prairie Home Companion” and KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic.”

The Civil Wars consists of John Paul White, hailing from Florence, AL and Joy Williams, originally from Santa Cruz, CA, but now residing in Nashville. The duo’s chance meeting three years ago fueled an immediate songwriting chemistry and creative synergy. Their second show ever, performed at a sold out Eddie’s Attic, was recorded and released as a free digital album and has since been downloaded over 400,000 times. Barton Hollow was recorded in Nashville and was produced by Grammy-award winning Charlie Peacock. The 12-track album comes after the duo’s remarkably successful EP, Poison & Wine, which debuted at #4 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Top Albums chart. The EP’s title track and first single was played in full on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and its accompanying music video has been viewed over 4,000,000 times on YouTube. The music video for the first single and title track from the new record was released in November 2010 and has been viewed over 1,600,000 times.
