BLACKBERRY SMOKE RAISES $26,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH WITH HOMECOMING TRIBUTE CONCERT FOR LATE DRUMMER BRIT TURNER
FEATURED SPECIAL GUESTS BUTCH WALKER, CHEAP TRICK’S RICK NIELSEN AND DAXX NIELSEN, AND JACKYL’S JESSE JAMES DUPREE
INTERNATIONAL HEADLINE TOUR UNDERWAY
September 9, 2024— Acclaimed American rock band Blackberry Smoke recently took the stage at Atlanta’s Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park for a special homecoming concert honoring their late drummer, Brit Turner. The event featured heartfelt tributes from the group and other notable guests, such as Butch Walker, Jackyl’s Jesse James Dupree and Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen and Daxx Nielsen, who joined the band to perform some of Turner’s favorite songs. Throughout the concert, touching video tributes from Billy F. Gibbons, Warren Haynes, Jamey Johnson and members of the Zac Brown Band were also shared.
In addition to celebrating the life and legacy of Turner, who passed away earlier this year after a battle with glioblastoma, the event also raised over $26,000 for the Brit Turner Family Fund, which supports CURE Childhood Cancer’s research initiatives and provides vital support to patients and their families.
Of the partnership, Kevin Kennedy, Chief Operating Officer at CURE Childhood Cancer, shares, “Blackberry Smoke and CURE Childhood Cancer have shared a powerful and enduring partnership in the battle against pediatric cancers. When Brit Turner’s daughter was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, he envisioned supporting other families facing similar challenges and striving toward a cure. This vision lives on today through the Brit Turner Family Fund at CURE Childhood Cancer. Brit and I shared a lot in common—not just our love for music and motorcycles, but also our commitment as fathers of survivors to do whatever it takes to end pediatric cancers. Brit’s vision continues to thrive every day at CURE through his family fund.”
Blackberry Smoke is currently on tour across Europe, with upcoming stops in London, Copenhagen, Oslo, Berlin, Paris and more. They’ll be back in the U.S. in October, with shows lined up in Kansas City, Colorado Springs, Portland, Oregon, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Tulsa and more. See below for a full tour itinerary.
Throughout their prolific career, Blackberry Smoke has released eight studio albums including their latest, Be Right Here. Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell), the record was released to widespread critical acclaim earlier this year and debuted at #1 on the Current Country Albums chart, Americana/Folk Albums chart and Current Rock Albums chart. Of the record, Premier Guitar praised, “Blackberry Smoke is what happens when real musicians tell authentic stories through great songs,” while Forbes declared, “a unique blend of hard rock, southern rock, country, blues, and masterful songwriting” and Relix proclaimed, “Be Right Here is what Blackberry Smoke has been heading toward all along.”
Since forming in 2001, Blackberry Smoke has continued to tour relentlessly, building a strong and loyal community of fans. In addition to their work as musicians, the band is deeply committed to charitable work and has raised over a million dollars to date benefitting children’s cancer research.
