December 12, 2025— Multi-diamond global superstar Carín León wraps an extraordinary year with the release of Chapayeka, an album recorded entirely live in Hermosillo, Sonora. Listen to/share the album HERE. Watch the official video for new song “Sin Fortuna” HERE.
The global ambassador of Música Mexicana and four-time Latin GRAMMY® winner chose his native Hermosillo as the backdrop for this production—specifically the historic La Matanza neighborhood, one of the city’s oldest areas.
The neighborhood holds special meaning for León, as his “tatas” (grandparents) lived there, and its streets are woven into the very fabric of the singer’s identity and Sonoran culture. As a tribute to his grandfather, León chose to record the entire production by the tree where he watched his “tata” sing throughout the years.
Recorded completely live and outdoors, Chapayeka brings together six musicians and 15 guest artists, including norteño music stars Lalo Mora and Eliseo Robles (Palomazo Norteño), además de Óscar Iván Treviño (Duelo), El Larry y la clase, Tony Aguirre, Cheche Flores, Codigo FN, Los Alegres de la Sierra, Nivel C, Dueto Sensación, La Casta, Indio Ortega, Braulio Mata, Changoleón, among others, and was produced by Antonio Zepeda.
The extensive LP features 20 tracks—traditional Mexican music hits reimagined by Carín for this album—including “Sin Fortuna,” featuring Indio Ortega, the album’s focus track.
León pays tribute to Sonora with his new album, named after the Yaqui culture native to the state. The chapayecas, iconic figures in Yaqui tradition during Lent, represent the people’s defense of their roots and spiritual connection to nature. With this album title, León reinforces his commitment to his origins and the traditions that have shaped his identity.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that León surprises fans with a year-end gift by releasing his signature live album in December—a tradition that includes Palabra de To’s, winner of the 2025 Latin GRAMMY® for Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album.
The release caps off a landmark year for León, who won his fourth Latin GRAMMY®, received his second GRAMMY® nomination—including his first win in February, announced his historic sold-out residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, and collaborated with global music legends on “We Made It Look Easy / Hicimos Que Pareciera Fácil” with Bon Jovi, “VELAS” with Carlos Santana, and release “Lost in Translation” with Kacey Musgraves—named one of Rolling Stone’s 100 best songs of the year.
