HANK MAY UNVEILS “MORGANA” VIDEO

SUPPORTS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS
NEW ALBUM TAILS OUT NOW
Additionally, podcast hosts Nava Kavelin and Penn Badgley discuss the video and its important themes of mental health, particularly suicide prevention, in the most recent episode of their podcast Podcrushed—watch/listen here.
“It was quite an honor to work with Jo and the whole crew on this amazing video,” May says. “Jo came to me out of the blue having caught my set at Zebulon a few years back and proposed we make a video together. He sent me a video of himself doing an interpretive dance to the song and I was blown away and completely endeared to his passion and vision. The experience of making the video was overloaded with a sense of kismet and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’ve never had a video quite like this before and I feel like I’m dreaming.”
“With this concept, I challenged myself to bring humor, vulnerability, empowerment and hope—everything in Hank’s music—to a sensitive and complicated subject, one I have experience with and needed to honor,” details Garrity. “We designed the production as a non-profit, in-kind effort for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, hoping to reduce stigma, foster connectedness and spark meaningful conversations. We found supportive partners in Hyper RPG Studios, transporting our therapy group into a kinetic, otherworldly realm using an innovative virtual production environment and motion-control camera system. I’m thrilled to share our expression of joy and healing with the world.”
“Morgana” is taken from May’s new album, Tails, out now via Dangerbird Records—get it here. Tails features singles “Rainy Day,” “I’m Just A Lover Now,” and “Life Is Sweet”—the latter of which debuted via Paste who praised it as “a groovy pop track coated in a candy folk gloss” that “lives up to its own title, with an earworm melody and a sharp modernity.”
Additionally, May will perform two sold-out shows opening for Rhett Miller at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach on January 19 and The Bourbon Room in Los Angeles on January 20.
Much of Tails came to fruition whilst May was wandering the streets of Los Angeles, spending time with friends and absorbing even the smallest of details around him. “I put my antennae up pretty high for this one,” he details. Where his debut album, One More Taste of the Good Stuff, found May more in the indie singer-songwriter space, Tails explores multiple genres. May and his good friend and collaborator Patrick Taylor were able to experiment together in May’s home studio. “I intentionally set out to make a pop record with intricate arrangements and was thinking of this as a playlist more so than a narrative album,” May notes.
Tails follows the releases of his debut album, One More Taste of the Good Stuff, which was released in 2021 to critical praise:
“Both introspective and observational of the world’s absurdity, May’s songwriting
paints a vivid world while letting us into the crevices of his psyche.”—Flood
“dark humor, quirky melodies, and [an] observational style”—Under The Radar
“With his premier album, One More Taste of the Good Stuff, Hank May offers an
open wound, a blunt diary entry, of the transformative world that has colored his work.”—Atwood Magazine
“May proves himself to be a contender on his debut, bringing to mind visionaries
like David Berman and Conor Oberst, in his ability to bring us right into the room where
the song is taking place.” —Treble
“Introspective and folksy, rarely simple and always riveting.”—The Aquarian Weekly
