NEW SINGLE “HURTS TO FALL IN LOVE” OUT NOW
SELLS OUT FIRST EVER HOMETOWN SHOW IN SPRINGFIELD, MO
“I’m so stoked to release my first project, it’s been 12 years in the making,” Av says. “Every song means so much to me, starting with my recent single off the project ‘Hurts To Fall In Love.’ That song is a small sample of the depth that this project reaches. Every song, every video, means so much to me. I love this music shit so much. This is only the beginning of my career. Every single part of this EP, from the art, to the song list, to the name of the project, has a deep meaning to it and I can’t f* wait to share it with the world.”
The EP arrives the day before Av’s first ever, sold out headline show in his hometown of Springfield, Missouri where he will perform to 850 fans at The Regency on November 9—see Av’s trailer announcement here. Av is fresh off his tour run supporting MOD SUN & lovelytheband, with stops in San Francisco, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago and more.
Born and raised in a small town outside of Springfield, Missouri, Av Freeman has been steadily releasing music online since 2021. From the start, Av’s music was a response to tragedy. In the face of unimaginable odds and loss, the rising musician found himself an explosive hit (2024’s “I’d Rather Overdose”) and a ticket out of rural Missouri. Under the moniker of honestav, he shares personal tracks dealing with addiction, loss and healing informed by a blend of alternative, indie-folk, hip-hop and pop influences.
The new single adds to a landmark year for the breakout musician, who recently released a series of new videos for “Cool Kids,” “Paranoia,” “Both Dead” and a new version of Av’s hit song, “I’d Rather Overdose — MOD SUN Remix,” which has been added to heavy rotation on Los Angeles’ KROQ. The original track has amassed 88 million streams globally, is currently charting on Billboard’s Alternative Radio Chart at #24 and has also landed on Billboard’s Hot Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts.
In the midst of a meteoric rise, Av exudes a relatability and truth that has procured a quickly growing, loyal fanbase and a label deal with Rebel Music/gamma. Following the death of his brother and father, Av—the youngest of four brothers and a sister—recorded music obsessively, releasing a song a week for over a hundred weeks in a row amid this grief. Today, Av continues to use music as an outlet, sharing stories of his experiences with the world.
