June 5, 2026—Laura Misch today releases her second album, Lithic, available digitally and on vinyl via One Little Independent Records— listen/share here.

Lithic exists across two time scales: mechanical chronos time, which works on a human scale; and geological kairos time, the slow shaping of the world over millennia. Lithic is defined as “of the nature of or relating to stone,” embodying the vast lifetime of stone, reshaped by both the weather and by industry. Laura treats sound with an existential gravitas, as an ancient material transformed over time. She unearths primal music born from voice, body, breath, tracing a time before language and before industry, when the sound of the earth was the land, wind, and water.

The meditative first track on Lithic, “Breathing,” vibrates with rhythmic “sax clouds”: long, breath-driven textures that gradually find their shape and bloom open. Laura introduces textures slowly to Lithic, adding layers of sediment before expanding wide. Her saxophone is equally expanded beyond tradition, imitating the wind, or a choir, or the reverberation of the earth itself.

The landscape is repurposed as percussion: “Kairos” and “Scrolls” feature rhythmic striking slate in an eroding quarry, and stones of an 180-year-old stone lithophone. Across the album, rock faces become resonators, caves and cliffs as natural reverb chambers, woven with torrential rain and wind. The foundations of the album were developed through a deep listening practice, capturing minute eco-acoustics from within the geology. Female pioneering artists and thinkers such as Barbara Hepworth, Pauline Oliveros and Annea Lockwood, sparked a shift towards collaboration with landscape. Inspired by eco-psychotherapist Ruth Allen’s Weathering, Lithic reframes the changing human body within the same lens as the changing of the earth over geological time. Rather than resisting age, allow the elements to form both the body and the landscape: the worn fractures in stone mirror set lines etched into a face.

Laura’s acclaimed debut album Sample the Sky (2023) floated above ground in clouds of sound, followed by its acoustic counterpart Sample the Earth (2024). Her latest offering, Lithic, journeys downward through deep geological time. Laura says of Lithic: “What sets this record apart is that it feels more embodied and more geological. Less about suspension, more about gravity. Less about transcendence, more about being inside the weather.”

In 2026, Laura embarks on a European tour, kicked off by her biggest headline show to date at London’s Barbican on July 3. Full routing is below.
