LIZ COOPER’S “MOTORCYCLE” MUSIC VIDEO DEBUTS TODAY

NEW ALBUM HOT SASS OUT NOW

EXTENSIVE FALL HEADLINE TOUR CONFIRMED

The official music video for “Motorcycle” from acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician Liz Cooper is debuting today. Directed by Jacq Justice, the video was filmed at various locations across New York City and is now available to watch/share HERE.

Of the video, Cooper shares, “This video was made in a spur of the moment creative frenzy in my Brooklyn apartment and across Manhattan. Shot and directed by Jacq Justice, we painted my body to match a doll who represents my alter ego and painted the town red.”

“Motorcycle” is from Cooper’s critically acclaimed new album, Hot Sass, which was released earlier this month via Thirty Tigers—stream/purchase HERE. Produced by Benny Yurco (Michael Nau, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals), mixed by Dan Molad (Lucius, Emily King) and recorded live at Little Jamaica Recordings in Burlington, VT, Hot Sass marks multiple departures for Cooper—from her nine-year home of Nashville, from her band addendum of the Stampede, and from the genre-based expectations she’s accumulated throughout her career. With these twelve new songs, Cooper comes into her own—both musically and as a person—embracing a newfound sense of independence, honesty, maturity and creativity.

Critical praise for Hot Sass

“Cooper captures the fleeting moments from her late 20s with equal parts humor and critique…the unguarded approach here underpins the authenticity that defines this album.”—American Songwriter

“Title track ‘Hot Sass’ is a fuzzed-out explosion of punkish angst, while ‘Je T’Aime’ is a melodically rich dose of psychedelic pop that owes a little bit of its musical DNA to ‘Taxman’ (which is to say, it rocks).”—Nashville Scene

Hot Sass is an album that lives up to its name through pure attitude and originality…this record is both humble and groundbreaking to put Liz Cooper in the much-deserved spotlight.”—Guitar Girl Magazine

Hot Sass is both a moment in Cooper’s personal evolution and the band’s musical one”—Forbes

“breezy, slightly twangy indie rock”—Brooklyn Vegan

“showcases a vocal sneer from Cooper reminiscent of Janis Joplin…with its sudden explosion into a breakneck rockabilly banger midway through, the title track feels like the late-night soundtrack to an unpredictable road trip”—San Francisco Chronicle

“a lively new set of songs”—XPN’s The Key

“an intriguing, fascinating and at times spellbinding listen…If you enjoy artists that offer something different and demand a little more from a listener such as St Vincent, Grimes, Ariel Pink and Perfume Genius, you’ll love Liz Cooper.”—Maximum Volume Music

“A hypnotic and ear-catching record”—ColoRising

Hot Sass is an introspective release that boasts Liz Cooper’s ability to experiment yet master her sound.”—Clunk Magazine

In celebration of the new music, Cooper will embark on an extensive headline tour this fall with upcoming stops at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall, Philadelphia’s MilkBoy, Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, Los Angeles’ Lodge Room, Austin’s Empire Control, Denver’s Bluebird Theatre and Chicago’s Lincoln Hall among several others. Cooper will also perform select shows this month supporting Billy Idol. See below for complete itinerary. Tickets are on-sale now, full details can be found at www.lizcoopermusic.com/tour.

Reflecting on the album, Cooper shares, “It’s me learning about what kind of woman I am and it’s not pretty all the time…I’m still processing these songs. Still reflecting. And I think that’s the thing—Hot Sass is just a stamp in time of what was happening in my life. I just want to continue making art that displays myself, the moments, and the people around me.”

In addition to Cooper and Yurco, Hot Sass also features Cooper’s longtime bandmates and collaborators Joe Bisirri (bass), Ryan Usher (drums, percussion) and Michael Libramento (guitar, synthesizer).

The new record follows Cooper’s 2018 full-length debut album, Window Flowers, which was released to widespread critical acclaim. Of the album, NPR Music praised, “a gorgeously arranged and performed bouquet of psychedelia-tinged folk-rock,” while Rolling Stone hailed, “Cooper pushes her strand of folk rock deep into psychedelic territory by merging her idiosyncratic vocal style with swirling, droning guitar effects and lacerating solos that feel dusted with otherworldly magic,” and Paste declared, “If we’re lucky, we are going to hear a lot more artists in the future like Liz Cooper.” Originally from Baltimore and now based in Brooklyn, Cooper has continued to tour consistently since her debut, performing alongside artists such as Dr. Dog, Shakey Graves, Bermuda Triangle, Lord Huron and Phosphorescent as well as special festival performances at Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival, BottleRock Music Festival, Lockn’ and more.
