ROB BROWN JOINS MPRS GLOBAL AS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

GROWING ROYALTY TRACKING + COLLECTION SERVICE FOUNDED BY TEAM BEHIND MTHEORY

Today, mprs Global—a royalty collection and administration service founded by the team behind mtheory—confirms Rob Brown has joined their growing team as Chief Operating Officer.

Pronounced “empress,” mprs brings together a team of industry experts and proprietary technology, creating the music industry’s first master royalty-specific administration platform. mprs works on behalf of a multitude of producers, mixers and catalog owners to ensure that their catalogs are complete and all master royalties are being properly calculated and paid. Last year, the company administered more than $12m worth of royalties for clients around the world.

Brown joins the rapidly expanding company with nearly 12 years of experience at Kobalt Music Group under his belt, most recently as Vice President of Business Affairs & Commercial Strategy. He relocated from Kobalt’s London headquarters to the Los Angeles office seven years ago to help bolster the company’s expansion on the West Coast. During his time with Kobalt, Brown guided negotiations for a record number of agreements (including several of his own signings) across Kobalt Publishing and Kobalt Neighbouring Rights which included multiple deals through the two Kobalt Capital funds. He also created innovative funding and administration partnership structures for clients including Raedio Publishing (Issa Rae), Dirty Hit, Heavy Duty and TruSauce (Rogét).

In 2020, Variety named Brown one of Hollywood’s New Leaders and Billboard honored him in their 40 Under 40 list. He has overseen deals with a host of acclaimed artists and producers including FINNEAS, Roddy Ricch, Andrew Watt, Erykah Badu, Björk, Toro Y Moi, Syd, Moses Sumney, Jahaan Sweet, Bonobo, Kali Uchis, Perfume Genius and a host of others.

“I’m delighted to join and build with the mprs team,” Brown says. “Music remains my first love, so to now be in a position to further empower its architects is a great honor, and the least I could do as thanks for the magic they create.”

“Defining a much-needed category of rights management for producers and mixers requires vision, leadership and integrity, qualities Rob embodies perfectly,” says mprs CEO Jon McMillan. “He’s a veteran executive with an intimate understanding of the creative community that powers our industry, and we are thrilled to welcome him as our Chief Operating Officer.”
