PHENOTYPIC RECORDINGS SHARES EIGHTH EPISODE FROM NEW PODCAST: MUSICAL MINDS AND MISSIONS (M³)
WITH STEVEN COPES AND STEPHEN PRUTSMAN
PODCAST SUMMARY
LISTEN TODAY:
MoVE: FOUR VIOLINS, ONE NEW SOUND
The Modern Violin Ensemble, or MoVE, boldly reimagines what four violins can do. Exploring how music tells stories about identity, justice, technology, and human connection, the MoVE Premieres double album features twelve world-premiere commissions, uniquely instrumented for four violins.
In conversation with podcast host, Sarah Cahill, the members of MoVE ~ Lina Bahn, Livia Sohn, Carolyn Stuart, and Janet Sung ~ discuss friendship, collaboration, education, and the creation of new repertoire with living composers. The conversation coincides with the 2026 release of their debut album, MoVE Premieres, on Phenotypic Records and recorded in the San Francisco area at Schumann Music Studio and Skywalker Sound, as well as Zinober Concert Hall at University of South Florida and Stanford University’s CCRMA.
THE ARTISTS
MoVE (Modern Violin Ensemble) (Lina Bahn, Livia Sohn, Carolyn Stuart, and Janet Sung)
Driven to expand violin ensemble models through new repertoire, collaborations, and formats, the internationally acclaimed violinists of MoVE united to create a fresh and unexpectedly diverse sound world. Through commissions with renowned and emerging composers, MoVE’s emphasis on freedom of expression has inspired works of cultural influence, social equality, political justice, environmental awareness, personal stories, sound explorations, and multi-media experiences. The members of MoVE are celebrated soloists, chamber musicians, and pedagogues. They are deeply devoted to the next generation of performers and teachers, to passing along their rich experiences and expanding opportunities for artists, while strengthening connection and advancing inclusivity in the field and beyond.
